Frequently Asked Questions – Bar Grating Fasteners

1. What types of fasteners are available for bar gratings?

Bar gratings are typically secured using drive-in clips, screw clips or fastening sets. Drive-in clips are inserted without tools and are suitable for rapid installation. Screw clips provide a releasable connection and are particularly useful at maintenance access points. Fastening sets combine both elements and are supplied ready for installation. The choice depends on the load type, bearing structure and frequency of removal.

2. What is the difference between drive-in clips and screw clips?

Drive-in clips are hammered into the grating bearer with a hammer or rubber mallet. The connection is permanent and especially economical for large quantities. Screw clips, by contrast, are secured with a bolt and can be removed with tools. They are ideal for areas where gratings need to be opened regularly – e.g. on inspection covers or maintenance access points in industrial plants.

3. Which bolt size do I need? (M6, M8, M10)

The correct bolt size depends on the grating type and the bearer profile. As a general rule: M6 for light gratings and thin bearers; M8 for standard applications in industrial and commercial construction; M10 for heavy gratings and highly loaded areas. If in doubt, provide us with the bar thickness of the grating and the bearer profile – we will recommend the correct size.

4. What does “hot-dip galvanised” mean and which standard applies?

Hot-dip galvanising (also: hot-dip zinc coating) is a process in which steel parts are immersed in molten zinc. A metallurgically bonded zinc layer is formed that provides long-term corrosion protection – even when the coating is damaged, the protective effect regenerates through cathodic protection. The applicable standard is DIN EN ISO 1461. Our hot-dip galvanised fasteners meet these requirements and are suitable for outdoor use, industrial environments and wet areas.

5. How many fasteners do I need per bar grating panel?

As a guideline: at least 4 fastening points per grating panel (one at each corner). For longer panels (approx. 1,000 mm or more) we recommend additional central fastening points. In loaded areas – e.g. with vehicle traffic or high pedestrian frequency – follow the manufacturer’s specifications and, if required, a structural calculation. We are happy to help determine your requirements for a given area.

6. Can I request custom parts?

Yes. If standard fasteners do not fit – e.g. due to special dimensions, unusual profile geometry or specific coating requirements – we manufacture to your drawing or sample. Send us a DXF file, a dimensioned PDF drawing or even a sketch with measurements. We will respond within 24 hours with an assessment of feasibility and an initial price. Request custom parts here.

7. How does a bulk order work?

Submit bulk orders conveniently by e-mail or via our bulk order form. Our volume pricing applies from 250 pcs. We confirm your order, provide a delivery date and issue a pro-forma invoice on request. For recurring orders, we are happy to agree framework contracts with fixed terms.

8. Do you also deliver abroad?

Yes, we deliver to selected EU countries. Dispatch is from Germany. Shipping costs and delivery times for international orders are displayed at checkout or provided on request. For bulk orders outside Germany, please contact us directly for a tailored quote including freight costs.

9. How long does delivery take?

Stock items are generally delivered within 1–3 business days to Germany. For custom parts or items not in stock, we will inform you of the expected delivery time before order confirmation. For urgent orders, please contact us directly – we will do our best to arrange express delivery.
